One of the most common questions we get at Alpine Caravan Services is "how much will it cost?" It's a fair question, and the honest answer is: it depends on the condition of your van and what it needs. But we can give you a solid guide.
A brakes-and-bearings-only service — removing, cleaning, inspecting, repacking, and reassembling — typically runs between $300–$500 depending on the number of axles and the condition of the components.
A comprehensive annual service covering running gear, chassis inspection, electrical and lighting, water systems, and seals typically ranges from $500–$900 for a single-axle van, and $700–$1,200+ for a dual-axle.
Parts are always additional. Common replacement items include brake shoes, magnets, bearings, seals, and split pins. A good workshop will quote these separately and call you before replacing anything not already agreed.
A lighter inspection focused on giving you peace of mind before a trip — usually $150–$300 depending on scope.
Dual-axle vans have four hubs instead of two. More bearings, more brake components, more time — costs roughly 40–60% more than a single-axle for the same scope of work.
A well-maintained van serviced regularly will always cost less than one that's been neglected. Seized components, heavily worn parts, and corrosion all add time and parts to the bill.
Older vans — especially anything over 15–20 years — often need more attention. Parts can also be harder to source for discontinued models.
If a service reveals something that needs attention, a good workshop will always call you before proceeding.
If a quote seems significantly lower than others, ask what's included. A cheap quote that doesn't include bearing repacking, a written report, or a proper electrical check isn't a full service — it's a partial one.
Any reputable workshop will provide a written report at the end of the service outlining what was inspected, what was found, and what was done. If a workshop doesn't offer this, you have no record of what was actually done to your van.
You should never receive a bill you didn't agree to. A good workshop quotes before touching anything and calls you if they find something additional during the service.
